CHARACTERISTICS OF SUBSTRATE
Tilt up and precast concrete is a major building method for medium and large structures. Most structures require painting with conventional or textured coatings for both long-term protection and aesthetics. Tilt up concrete should be cured for a minimum 6 weeks before painting. Almost all tilt up panels have bond breaker compounds used on them which requires complete removal prior to coating. Use an appropriate bond breaker remover according to label instructions allowing 48 hours drying prior to coating. Patch any defects with suitable filling compounds and remove any surplus surface protrusions.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Ensure previous coating system is in sound condition and firmly adherent to the substrate. If peeling and/or flaking is present, remove failed coating back to bare substrate and follow new work specification for spot priming. Clean surface to ensure it is free from any contaminants such as dust, mould and mildew etc. If any contaminants are found, they must be cleaned with appropriate products as per label instructions. Spot prime any bare areas as per NEW work specification sheet.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Drying times are approximate at 25° C and 50% relative humidity. Allow longer drying times under cool, moist or low air movement conditions. Spreading rates will vary from the quoted theoretical rates depending on application methods and surrounding conditions.
Do not paint if temperatures are below 10°C or likely to fall below 10°C during drying period
Refer to TECHNICAL DATA SHEETS for additional information.
