CHARACTERISTICS OF SUBSTRATE

Plasterboard is a paper liner affixed to a set plaster core with slightly recessed edges and a sealed backing liner attached. The paper liners are made from recycled paper and cardboard and are finished to a high standard. Installed plasterboard presents two different surfaces for painting the actual paper face and the sanded filling compound used for covering joints. New plasterboard is best painted using a roller or brush to produce a slight texture. Airless spray is commonly used; but unless the first coat is back-rolled, the differential surfaces between the sheet face and the sanded jointing filler/ slightly sanded adjacent lining will be highlighted under critical lighting conditions. Plasterboard Sealers are paints specifically designed for this application so as to minimise absorbency variation between these two surfaces ensuring a high class finish to be achieved. Consideration should also be given as to what sheen level and colour considerations are to be used. Medium to high gloss and deep tone colours will add extra highlight to uneven surfaces particularly when combined with critical lighting or viewing aspects.

SURFACE PREPARATION

All plasterboard must be installed in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. Surface imperfections should be filled with appropriate filler, sanded and then dusted. Surfaces must be well prepared, free from dirt, mould and mildew, oil and other contaminants.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Drying times are approximate at 25° C and 50% relative humidity. Allow longer drying times under cool, moist or low air movement conditions. Spreading rates will vary from the quoted theoretical rates depending on application methods and surrounding conditions.
Do not paint if temperatures are below 10°C or likely to fall below 10°C during drying period
Refer to TECHNICAL DATA SHEETS for additional information.
