CHARACTERISTICS OF SUBSTRATE
*OPTIONAL:
FIRST COAT
Sunshield Semi Gloss: Apply one thin coat (25 microns) followed by second and third coats as above.
(Sunshield Semi Gloss is self priming to fibre cement, brick, masonry, render and most timber substrates. Aged, grey hardwood as well as tannin rich timbers should be primed with Multi Purpose Undercoat. Non-ferrous metals should be suitably prepared and primed. Sunshield Gloss neutral base is not self-priming.)
Bricks are predominantly kiln-fired clay which can be glazed or unglazed. Glazed bricks are not suitable for painting.
Being a natural mineral, bricks may contain traces of vanadium which could result in staining. If a smooth surface is required the brickwork will require rendering or use of a blockfiller coating. Repair loose mortar and large cracks after pressure washing. Spalling bricks should be replaced.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Constructed brickwork should be allowed to cure for 28 days prior to painting. Painting brickwork commences with the removal of dust and dirt, excess mortar protrusions, efflorescence and all loose and peeling paint. Pressure washing at 2500 psi is preferred for exterior conditions but thorough hand cleaning is suitable for interior work. Efflorescence requires chemical removal or wire brushing for small areas. Remove traces of peeling paint by scraping. Ensure surface is clean, dry and free from dust.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Drying times are approximate at 25° C and 50% relative humidity. Allow longer drying times under cool, moist or low air movement conditions. Spreading rates will vary from the quoted theoretical rates depending on application methods and surrounding conditions.
Do not paint if temperatures are below 10°C or likely to fall below 10°C during drying period
Refer to TECHNICAL DATA SHEETS for additional information.
