CHARACTERISTICS OF SUBSTRATE
Aluminium for construction purposes is usually alloyed with other agents to form a hard surface. Aluminium is usually available in sheet or cross-sectional forms for most purposes. Some cast aluminium work is available usually as decorative corner features. Most aluminium is quite resistant to corrosion but the oxide film that quickly forms on freshly exposed surfaces reduces the adhesion of most coatings and needs to be substantially removed prior to coating.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Aluminium should be abraded with wet and dry paper or a nylon scouring pad and mineral turpentine to assist with coating adhesion. The prepared surface should be wiped clean with Wax & Grease Remover to remove any solvent/ sanding residues. Painting should be carried out as soon as practical after the preparation work has been performed.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Drying times are approximate at 25° C and 50% relative humidity. Allow longer drying times under cool, moist or low air movement conditions. Spreading rates will vary from the quoted theoretical rates depending on application methods and surrounding conditions.
Do not paint if temperatures are below 10°C or likely to fall below 10°C during drying period
Refer to TECHNICAL DATA SHEETS for additional information.
